Selective Removal of Hexavalent Chromium from Wastewater by Rice Husk: Kinetic, Isotherm and Spectroscopic Investigation

Chromium (Cr) in water bodies is considered as a major environmental issue around the world. In present study, aqueous Cr(VI) adsorption onto rice husk was studied function of various parameters. Equilibrium time achieved 2 h and maximum 78.6% at pH 5.2 120 mg L−1 initial concentration. isotherm experiments, sorption observed 379.63 g−1. Among four models, Dubinin–Radushkevich Langmuir models showed best fitting to data, suggesting physical monolayer be dominant mechanism. The kinetic modeling that pseudo-second order model suitable describe equilibrium fast rate Cr(VI). results FTIR spectroscopy indicated mainly –OH C–H contributed husk. This paper provided evidence could cost-effective, environment-friendly efficient adsorptive material for removal from wastewater due its high capacity.
